Circadian and multidien rhythms of spikes and seizures in temporal lobe epilepsy

Abstract

Sleep and epilepsy share a complex bidirectional relationship. Sleep stages modulate epileptic activity, while epilepsy disrupts sleep architecture. In addition to sleep-stage influences, other cyclic patterns have emerged as key modulators of seizure dynamics. This study aims to (1) characterize the effects of epilepsy on sleep architecture, (2) examine the influence of sleep stages on seizures and interictal epileptic activity, and (3) investigate circadian and multidien rhythmicity in epileptiform activity using a rat model of temporal lobe epilepsy.
